Finalists of the 2023 European Sustainable Energy Awards announced

Public voting for the best European clean energy projects and leaders now open

The ​ European Sustainable Energy Awards ​ (EUSEW Awards) recognise outstanding individuals and projects for their innovation and efforts in energy efficiency and renewables. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Innovation, Local Energy Action, and Woman in Energy. Winners are announced during the EUSEW Awards Ceremony in June 2023 in the presence of European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and the ​ high-level jury. ​ 

The winners will be decided by an online public vote, which is open now until 11 June.

European Sustainable Energy Awards 2023 Finalists

Innovation category

The EUSEW Innovation Award recognises outstanding ongoing or recently completed EU-funded projects that show an original and innovative path towards the clean energy transition.

Alqueva Floating Solar Farm is a hybrid energy project bringing together solar energy, hydropower and battery storage.
STEP (Solutions to Tackle Energy Poverty) is using social innovation to tackle energy poverty in nine EU countries.
TrAM (Transport: Advanced and Modular) is behind the world’s first fully electric fast ferry with zero emissions.

Local Energy Action

The EUSEW Local Energy Action Award recognises implemented sustainable energy actions, driven by a group of citizens or consumers (associated with a municipality or other stakeholders), which contribute to the clean energy transition at the community or local level. It also inspires and motivates others to implement similar steps for an EU-wide deployment, resulting in economic and environmental benefits.

KLIK (Križevci Laboratory for Innovation in Climate) is an energy community in Croatia bringing clean energy to citizens.
The Balearic Islands' self-consumption collective is tackling energy poverty through the installation of PV systems on publicly owned infrastructure.
Together with the Neighbours is a citizen-led initiative reducing residential energy consumption.

Woman in Energy

The EUSEW Woman in Energy Award recognises women who lead outstanding activities that, if replicated, help to advance the clean energy transition in Europe. Particular attention is placed on efforts to drive the gender mainstreaming agenda and support equality and equal opportunities in the energy sector.

Agnieszka Spirydowicz is bringing solar, wind and hydrogen power to a coal-dominated region in Poland. 
Anastasia-Maria Moschovi ​ is a materials engineer bringing energy innovation to Greece. 
Silke Wesselmann is driving 24 municipalities in the District of Steinfurt, Germany to climate neutrality. 

EUSEW 2023 

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the biggest annual event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe, takes place on 20 - 22 June under the theme 'Accelerating the clean energy transition – towards lower bills and greater skills'. The event will bring thousands of sustainability stakeholders together to explore policy topics related to protecting European consumers from price volatility and sharpening their skills to produce and save energy within the current energy context. ​

About European Sustainable Energy Week

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is the biggest annual event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe and comprises a series of activities aimed at building a secure and clean energy future for Europe.

It brings together public authorities, private companies, NGOs, EU project partners, researchers and consumers to promote initiatives to go green and digital for Europe's energy transition.

Launched in 2007 by the European Commission, EUSEW is organised by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), in close cooperation with Directorate-General for Energy.
